There will be an effort to belittle "Only You Can Reduce Oil Consumption" campaign based on the false assumption that each individual, company or state doesn’t have a substantial impact on the demand of this fuel.
This same argument is used to persuade people NOT to vote. There is little change if one individual acts but there are tremendous impacts when many people act in unison.
On a historical basis during both World Wars I and II, Americans behaved individually and in common cause to sacrifice for the war effort in order to defeat our enemies worldwide. Policies and promotions during World War I ”implored Americans to voluntarily modify their eating habits in order to increase shipments to the valiant soldiers defending our freedom”.
During World War II, “supplies such as gasoline, butter, sugar and canned milk were rationed because they needed to be diverted to the war effort”.
More recent successful examples of successful efforts to collectively change America’s behavior occurred in combating drought conditions in Texas and California.
People were asked to reduce their water consumption in Texas during 2017 and results indicated that “the state’s daily per capita residential water use was 88 gallons. California instituted successful water conservation efforts resulting in declines during 2016 of 85 gallons of daily residential use; whereas, during 2013 water usage was much greater.
Everyone needs to shield themselves from rocketing gasoline and diesel fuel prices whenever a fiscal, military or economic crisis occurs. The only secure approach is to reduce oil consumption with energy efficient or alternative-fueled transportation.
Now the negative effects from oil consumption are many times more consequential due to worsening environmental, health, economic, war and justice conditions. The oil and auto industries sell their products one person and one company at a time, realizing that the aggregate will be huge profits for them.
The oil embargo of 1973-1974 forced Americans to scramble for their precious fuel and we pledged to consume less oil. Fast forward a half century later and our country is still struggling with the same catastrophic problem in trying to ween ourselves off of oil.
Do not be dissuaded by others who degrade your efforts to reduce oil consumption.
